Qualitative coding is a subjective research activity. A researcher must decide upon data collection methods (focus groups, interviews, observations, ethnography) and then what to do with these data. Following a framework, model, or theory can demystify the process from data collection to data analysis.
Many researchers’ ideas begin with hunches they have developed from hands-on practical everyday work. Therefore, they know what they are out to prove through their research.
