Opportunities

We recruit transcriptionists who are production typists with excellent written language, spelling, and grammar skills, 80 to 100 wpm typing speed, and strong integrity and pride in their work. We have high expectations for contractor work. Contractors must work in Microsoft Word and have access to email. College education is preferred but not required.

We provide work on a per-project basis giving contractors flexibility in their work schedules. Contractors have the opportunity to work when they are available. If a contractor accepts a project, it must be completed on time. Contractors with high-quality performance and an excellent work ethic are called on most often.

Required Skills

Typing Speed, 80 to 100 words per minute

Excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling

Understand sentence structure, especially commas where needed
Differentiate homophones (your/you’re, peak/peek/pique, etc.)

Attention to detail

Spot typos and correct (the/they, don’t’, etc.)
Correct spacing errors, using built-in functions as appropriate
Thoroughly review Project Instructions upon receipt
Carefully review recordings, including multiple times if needed
Search the Internet for spellings in such a way as to secure the best search outcome
Use correct style format indicated on instructions
Use built-in functions in Word to increase efficiency
Be able to read and follow all aspects of the Project Instructions
Be a good listener
Demonstrate the capacity to be flexible and calm when working with difficult material, including but not limited to accents and low-quality recordings
Be able to focus on subject matter, understand the context of the subject, and anticipate inconsistencies
Be consistent with acryonym spellings when they are a significant part of the discussion

Equipment

Computer, Windows 10 and Windows 11 workstations or Macs using macOS 13-Ventura, macOS 12-Monterey, and macOS 11-Big Sur workstations
Anti-malware or antivirus software such as Symantec, Trend Micro, Mojave, or Windows Defender
All operating system software, device firmware, application software and other software current with the latest security-related patches
Workstation is configured to run all Windows and Mac OS updates automatically
Encrypted flash drive
Word
Email
Pedal for digital transcription
Software for digital transcription such as Express Scribe
Headphones that are comfortable to use
